Metaphysical Poetry Presentation 2. Introduction The poet challenges and ridicules Death which is personified. In other words, Donne wanted to show to the readers that death is not so mighty and dreadful and someday there will be one that can defeat death and death shall be no more. These two poems used personification in the other way. She also wrote death as a gentleman that very kindly and no haste to take a lady out. She used a romantic description to show the closeness between death and the lady. He gave a climax plot to his poem.

At first John Donne gave a description of death as a mighty and dreadful, master that can take all the things even the best men. But in the middle of the poem, John Donne gave another way to look death. Even, Donne said that death is a slave to the fate, kings, chance and desperate men. Works Cited Ebehart, J.
